How to Get Renegade Raider & Aerial Assault Trooper in Fortnite

Unlike other games, in Fortnite, your skin is a big deal, as it showcases what you’ve completed or, even, how long you’ve been playing the game for.

And when we talk about the super rare, super respected skins, two always come up: Renegade Raider and Aerial Assault Trooper

These skins are a collector's dream from the earliest days of Fortnite, and for years, you just couldn't get them, as they were locked to Chapter 1, Season 1

But then, out of nowhere, Fortnite OG happened, and these famous skins were suddenly available again.

So, if you’re curious about how you could snag these skins, or if you’re wondering if they’re still available, you've come to the right place!

Why Players Want OG Skins So Much

Why do the OG Renegade Raider and Aerial Assault Trooper skins demand such respect and rarity from the Fortnite community? It’s all due to their rarity and history.

Back in late 2017, during Fortnite Chapter 1 Season 1, the game was nowhere near as popular as it is now. There wasn't even a proper Battle Pass as we know it today. Instead, there was a Season Shop.

Within this Season Shop, players had to grind to level 15 to be allowed to purchase the Aerial Assault Trooper skin, while to get the Renegade Raider, players had to reach Level 20.

But, most importantly, reaching the levels didn't grant the skins; it merely unlocked the option to buy them from the Fortnite shop for around 1,200 to 1,500 V-Bucks.

Since Fortnite hadn't yet exploded into the craze it is now, relatively few players reached those levels, let alone decided to spend their money on those skins..

Once C1S1 ended, the skins vanished, seemingly forever, turning them into one of the rarest skins in Fortnite history.

Getting Renegade Raider and Aerial Assault Trooper in Fortnite OG

Fast forward to late 2023, where players must earn 2 million XP to unlock new skins, Epic Games introduced Fortnite OG: Chapter 4, Season 1. This was a month-long nostalgia trip through Chapter 1's seasons, featuring classic weapons, locations, and a unique reward system just like the old days.

Instead of the standard Battle Pass, we got the OG Pass and an accompanying OG Season Shop tab. And the feature for the shop? Yup! The Renegade Raider and Aerial Assault Trooper.

But getting them wasn't as simple as logging in to the Fortnite shop. Fortnite decided to preserve those skins in legacy status by tying them to a tricky progression system within the OG Pass.

Here’s what you had to do to get them:

  1. Access the OG Season Shop, featuring rotating classic skins from the OG season.

  2. Grind Levels: The mechanic involved leveling up the 50-tier OG Pass, and reaching specific levels didn’t award the skins but instead unlocked the ability to purchase them from the OG Season Shop using V-Bucks.

  3. Unlock Aerial Assault Trooper: To have the right to buy this skin, you had to earn 1,000,000 XP, reaching Level 50 in the Fortnite OG Chapter 1 Pass. Once done, you could head to the OG Season Shop and purchase 1,200 V-Bucks. Alongside that, the Aerial Assault One glider was also available for 500 V-Bucks if you hit Level 50.

  4. Unlock Renegade Raider: To have the right to buy Renegade Raider, you had to earn 1,500,000 XP to unlock it, reaching Level 70 in the OG Pass. Once done, you could purchase Renegade Raider for 1,500 V-Bucks. The Raider's Revenge pickaxe could also be bought with 1,500 V-Bucks upon 2,000,000 XP.

This system paid respect to the original Chapter 1 Season 1 method, leveling up to earn the right to buy, while adjusting things slightly to the modern Fortnite framework.

While some players weren't happy they couldn’t just buy the skin outright, we don’t think it was a bad thing, as it ensured these skins remained prestigious and challenging to obtain as they originally were.

The XP Grind for OG Skins

So, what did hitting Level 50 or Level 70 stand for during Fortnite OG Chapter 1? Well, it meant earning a massive amount of experience points. The OG Pass had 50 core tiers, plus bonus goals, leading to the Level 70 required for Renegade Raider. While the OG Pass was shorter than a standard Battle Pass, the season itself was compressed into just four weeks.

  • Aerial Assault One Glider: 500,000 XP

  • Aerial Assault Trooper: 1,000,000 XP

  • Renegade Raider: 1,500,000 XP

  • Raider’s Revenge Pickaxe: 2,000,000 XP

Can You Still Get Them?

Here’s the big question: Can you still unlock the OG Renegade Raider or Aerial Assault Trooper skin in Fortnite today? Sadly, the answer is no.

This is because the Fortnite OG season finished on January 30, 2025, meaning the OG Season Shop vanished alongside it.

As the small window to acquire these specific versions of the Renegade Raider and Aerial Assault Trooper skins closed, getting a Fortnite account with OG skins is your best shot.

Do we think they will ever return? Well, with Fortnite, never say never, as the developers sometimes bring back rare skins to the shop; however, the handling of these two during Fortnite OG suggests they intend to keep them rare.

While new Fortnite skin variations might appear in the future, there has been no official word from Fortnite suggesting a return soon. So for now? Fingers crossed, or buy an account that has them!
