How Do You Reset Your Clash of Clans?

Maybe your initial base design feels less like a fortress and more like a freshman architect's folly. Perhaps you’re just craving that climb from a humble Town Hall 1 all over again, or maybe you’ve just found your dream Clash of Clans account for sale.

Whatever the reason may be, many CoC players often wonder: “How do you start fresh?” It's a common thought, and here’s the scoop: hitting a magic reset button on your existing Clash of Clans village isn't really on the cards, at least not in the way you might think.

While you can't simply wipe the slate clean on the current progress tied to your Supercell ID, you can begin a new game.

And the whole process? It’s relatively easy and less about a reset and more about a rebirth, through creating a new account from the ground up. Let's walk through how to do this smartly across Android and iOS devices.

Why a True "Reset" Is off the Table

Before we get into the how-to, let's clear up why you can't just nuke your current Clash of Clans village and start over on the same account. The answer is simple: Your progress, your painstakingly upgraded defenses, and your troop levels are all securely locked away on Supercell's servers. This is linked closely to your unique identifier, such as your Supercell ID, your Google Play account on Android or Game Center account on iOS.

Once that progress is logged, it’s part of that account's history. Supercell designed it this way to prevent accidental data loss and maintain account integrity. So, the idea of a simple reset your village button? It’s mostly a myth. Trying to reset Clash of Clans by simply uninstalling and reinstalling the game won’t work either. Log back in with the same credentials, and your progress will be restored to your old village.

The New Clash of Clans Account Approach

With a traditional reset no longer an option. What's the game plan? The answer is creating a new account, and here’s how it works, depending on your setup:

The Supercell ID Method

This is, by far, the cleanest and most recommended route, especially if you ever want to switch back and forth between your original account and your new one. A Supercell ID makes managing multiple accounts on the same device surprisingly straightforward.

  1. Check Your Current Link: Open Clash of Clans and head to the in-game settings (look for the gear icon). Check if your current village is associated with a Supercell ID. It usually shows 'Connected' with your ID email if it is.

  2. Log Out: If connected, tap 'Connected' and then 'Log Out'. Confirm your choice. This disconnects your high-level village from the active session.

  3. Initiate the New Game: The game should restart and present you with the opening sequence, with the classic "Welcome Chief!" tutorial. Crucially, select 'Play without Supercell ID' initially.

  4. Play through the Tutorial: After restarting Clash of Clans, complete the initial steps of building your new village, as this establishes the game data locally.

  5. Create a New Supercell ID: Once you can reaccess the settings in your new village, go back to the settings menu. This time, choose the option to register a Supercell ID. Critically, you need to create a new one using a different email address than the one associated with your original account. Do not attempt to use the same email address, as it will log you back into your old account.

  6. Verify: Follow the prompts, get the verification code sent to your new email, and enter it.

  7. Done! You now have a new account, a new village, tied to a new Supercell ID. You can now switch between your accounts easily via Settings -> Connected -> Log Out -> Log in with Supercell ID, selecting the email address associated with the village you want to load.

This method keeps your current account safe and sound while letting you start a new game seamlessly.

Resetting Clash of Clans Without Supercell ID

Perhaps you never linked a Supercell ID, or maybe you want to start over completely fresh, severing ties with your old logins. This path is less elegant and sometimes involves more drastic steps, particularly on iOS, so proceed with caution.

For Android Users:

  1. Unlink from Google Play (If Applicable): Go into your settings to manage your different account options.. If connected to Google Play, try disconnecting it there first.

  2. Clear App Data: Go to your phone's Settings -> Apps -> Clash of Clans -> Storage. Here, you'll find options to clear the cache and wipe the data. Clearing data is the key step as it attempts to remove local game files. This might erase unsaved progress if you weren't synced in the cloud, though CoC is usually good about this.

  3. Use a Different Google Account: When you reinstall or open Clash of Clans after clearing data, do not log in with your original Google Play account. You'll need to either select a different Google Play account already on your device or make a new Google account entirely and select that one when prompted by the game or the Google Play Games overlay. If you use the same account, it will likely find your backed-up data and load your new village once you restart.

  4. Start Fresh: The game will then begin anew, allowing you to replay the tutorial and build your new village.

For iOS Users:

iOS handles game data differently, often tying it more tightly to your Apple ID and Game Center account. Simply clearing data isn't usually an option.

  1. Check Game Center: Ensure you are logged out of the original Game Center account associated with your main Clash of Clans village. Go to your iPhone or iPad's Settings -> Game Center and sign out.

  2. The Drastic Step - Factory Reset: Often, the most surefire way (though extreme) to force a fresh start on iOS without Supercell ID is to perform a factory reset of your entire device.

  3. Set Up as New / Use New Apple ID: This involves creating a new Apple ID to start a new village. After the reset, set up your device as needed. Sign in with a different account and a new Apple ID (you may need to create a new one if you don't have a spare). Do not use the original Apple ID.

  4. Download and Play: Simply download Clash of Clans from the App Store. Launching it while logged into the new Apple ID / Game Center account should trigger a new game from the beginning.

Using methods without Supercell ID is generally less recommended now. It's clunkier, carries risks (especially the factory reset), and lacks the flexibility of easily switching to a different account.

Account Deletion

There is one more option, but it is permanent: account deletion. You can request Supercell to delete your Clash of Clans account entirely. This isn't a reset; it's erasure.

  1. Contact Support: If you encounter issues, go to settings for assistance. Go into your Clash of Clans settings -> Help and Support. Navigate through the options (often found under Account or a similar section) until you find a way to contact support directly, typically via live chat.

  2. Request Deletion: Explicitly state you want your account and all associated data permanently deleted before you uninstall the game.

  3. Verification & Waiting: Supercell support will guide you through a verification process to ensure you are the account owner. The deletion process is not instantaneous; it can take some time.

  4. Irreversible: This process involves creating a new account that cannot be undone. Once deleted, it cannot be recovered. It's gone forever. You could then start a new game, likely needing a new Supercell ID anyway.

This is the nuclear option. Only consider it if you are certain you never want to see that old village again and don't mind the process. Starting a new account via the Supercell ID method is far more practical if you want to restart the gaming experience.

Why Start a Fresh CoC Journey?

Starting over isn't just about hitting the restart button; it's a chance to apply everything you've learned. Maybe you want to try a completely new strategy from Town Hall 1, optimize your upgrade path, or just enjoy the early game's charm without the pressures of high-level play. Creating a new account gives you that blank canvas.

So, while you can't technically reset your Clash of Clans progress on an existing account, creating a new account, especially via Supercell ID, offers the perfect workaround to start fresh in Clash of Clans. Just grab a different email address, follow the steps, and get ready to build your next empire from scratch.
